What it does

GDevelop is an open-source game engine that allows founders and developers to create 2D and 3D games without extensive coding knowledge.

Install / run
Download and install the GDevelop editor from the official website, or clone the repository from https://github.com/4ian/GDevelop and follow the build instructions
When to use it
  • When you want to create a 2D or 3D game without learning a new programming language
  • When you need a cross-platform game engine that can deploy to multiple platforms
  • When you want to create a multiplayer game with ease
Quick start
  1. 1Create a new project by selecting 'File' > 'New Project' in the GDevelop editor
  2. 2Choose a template or start from scratch, and add objects, scenes, and events to your game using the drag-and-drop interface
  3. 3Use the 'Add Object' button to add sprites, animations, and other game elements to your scene
  4. 4Configure game logic using the 'Events' editor, which allows you to create conditional statements and actions without coding
  5. 5Preview and test your game using the 'Preview' button, which allows you to run your game in a web browser or on a mobile device
Ready-to-paste prompt
Create a new scene with a player object that moves left and right using the arrow keys, and add a collision event to detect when the player hits an obstacle: `Create event > Add condition > Keyboard > Key pressed > Left/Right`
Heads up: GDevelop uses a custom JavaScript-like language for scripting, so if you need to create complex game logic or use external libraries, you'll need to use the 'JavaScript' event type and write custom code
